NSE Index Closes South, Down 0.21%

Trading on the floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) relapsed on Tuesday as it witnessed the reversal of the bullish sentiment that had characterized trading in previous sessions as key market indicators the All-Share Index and Market Capitalisation, depreciated by 0.21 each.

The All Share Index depreciated by 74.53 basis points or 0.21 percent to close at 34,706.93 points as against 34, 781.46 points recorded on Monday, while market capitalisation shed N25.322 billion to close at N11.791 trillion compared with N11.817 trillion recorded the previous day.

The drop was attributed to losses recorded today primarily to sell offs in Dangote Cement which lost 0.3 percent, Nigeria Breweries which dropped 1.9 percent  and Lafarge Cement  WAPCO  with a loss of  2.1 percent. Investors at the close of trading on Tuesday bought and sold a total of 357.234 million shares valued at N4.1498 billion in 4,700 transactions as against 305.616 million shares valued at N2.978 billion in 4,667 transactions recorded on Monday with the financial services sector accounting for a total of 251.181 million shares valued at N2.220 billion in 2,495 deals compared with 255.663 million shares valued at N1.982 billion in 2,495 deals recorded on Monday.
