The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Jigawa has said that it arrested two persons for alleged illegal trading in petrol.
The NSCDC Commandant in the state, Mr Muhammad Gidado, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse on Sunday.
Gidado said the suspects were arrested at a filling station in Dutse Local Government Area.
He said that the manager and the fuel attendant took to their heels when they sighted men of the command, adding that NSCDC had launched a manhunt for them.
The commandant said that NSCDC officers recovered jerrycans and a 250 litres drum of petrol from the suspects.
He said that 24 out of the recovered 80 jerricans and the drum were filled with Premium Motor Spirit loaded on two Golf cars AG 129 ZAR and XC 684 BAU.
“Our Anti-Bumburutu team in Dutse Local Government Area also arrested two black marketers for illegal petrol dealing.
“But unfortunately, the manager of the affected filling station and his fuel attendant ran away when they sighted our men from far, but we are doing our best to get them arrested,’’ he said.
Gidado noted that Section 3 (e) of the NSCDC Act 2007 gave the corps the power to enter and search premises of any suspected illegal dealer in petroleum products.
He said that the same provision empowered officers and men of NSCDC to arrest any person suspected to have committed an offence under the Act.
Gidado added that the command would not relent in its effort to check hoarding, diversion and illegal sale of petroleum products in the state.
The commandant said the suspects would soon be charged to court.
