NSC confirms Yakmut as DG

The controversy over the fate of former Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Gbenga Elegbeleye, ended on Sunday with the Commission confirming the appointment of Al-Hassan Yakmut by President Goodluck Jonathan as Acting Director General of the Commission.

The Sports Minister, Tammy Danagogo, announced the appointment of Yakmut via a two paragraph letter dated 16th April 2015 to the staff of the NSC.

“Following Mr. President’s approval vide correspondence Ref. No. Pre/81/SGF/4/489/36/HCSF/124/184/MSPT/NSC/59, dated 15th April, 2015, Mr Al-Hassan Yakmut has been appointed Acrting Director General of the National Sports Commission, to replace Honourable Gbenga Elegbeleye, the outgoing Director General.

“All, including Directors, Acting Directors, etc are therefore advised to take note and comply accordingly,” Stated Danagogo.

Confirming the above, the Special Assistant on Media to the Sports Minister, Patrick Omorodion, in a statement at the weekend with reference NSC/HMC/GEN/CON/2015, stated that Jonathan has approved the appointment of Yakmut as Acting Director General, replacing Elegbeleye.

“The appointment of Mr Al-Hassan Yakmut will address the issue of keeping to the tradition of having seasoned professional and sports technocrat from within the Directorate Staff of the Commission to serve as Chief Administrative Officer of the Commission,” the statement added.

He added that Yakmut will be in a better position to offer professional advice to the Sports Minister, Tammy Danagogo.
