The struggle for allocation of leadership of National Assembly officially commenced on Sunday by stakeholders in the North East region when they urged the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to cede the position of President of the Senate region.

National Vice  Chairman (North East)  of APC, Pastor (Engr) Babachir David Lawal in a statement issued on Sunday said giving the slot of the Senate President or the Speaker, House of Representatives to the North East zone in appreciation of the votes contributed to the victory of the President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari.

He stated that the loss of Taraba State by the APC during the Presidential election was a result of rigging by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as he urged the people to set themselves free during the forthcoming Governorship election and vote for the APC massively.

The statement reads in part “On behalf of the good people of the North East region, I wish congratulate the President-elect, General Mohammadu Buhari and the Vice-President-elect Pastor Yomi Osinbajo on their resounding victory in the March 28, 2015 Presidential and National Assembly election.

“I also wish to heartily congratulate the people of the North East region of this country for the very overwhelming support they gave the All Progressives Congress in the Elections.

“The turn-out was very heart-warming indeed especially given the myriad of challenges we have been facing as people including the restriction of our movements to and from the Polling Units.

“It is noteworthy that we were massively rigged out in Taraba State but I wish to encourage our people there not to despair at all because we are confident of recovering our stollen mandates in due course.

“We are sure that with an APC government at the centre, the Nigerian judicial system will have no choice but to be just and transparent in the conduct of the affairs of justice. Therefore the people of Taraba State should not despair at all.

“But for us to reap the full benefits of an APC Government at the centre, we must also have APC in government in the six states in our zone.

“This will facilitate coordination and planning of development and infrastructure projects  that will have to be embarked upon by both tiers of government.

“An opposition government in any of the states will destroy this synergy and put any prospect of our rehabilitation, reconstruction and reconciliation in jeopardy.

“Therefore I call on all registered voters in the region to massively come out and cast their votes for the APC on Saturday, 11th April 2015.

“Meanwhile, in recognition of this immense contribution to the party’s victory, I want to seize this opportunity to call  on the APC National Leadership to cede either the Senate Presidency or Speaker of the House of Representatives to the region where we have an abundance of talent and imminently qualified candidates for these position.

“This will set the region on a course of accelerated development that it so desperately needs”.
