Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) is proposing a new minimum wage of N90,000 to the Federal Government and Nigeria Employers Consultative Association (NECA).

The proposal is coming after five years of the maintaining N18, 000 national minimum wage.

Factional President of NLC, Joe Ajaero, made this known on Friday, July 24, 2015 during a meeting of labour leaders in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

He described the proposal as modest based on the unstable macro-economic environment, Naira devaluation and the high rate of inflation in the country.

Speaking at the inaugural National Executive Council meeting of NLC, Ajaero said the congress would engage the administration on the issues of the economy, industry and job creation through campaigns and policy advocacy.

“The present administration should adopt an approach of developing policies and programmes to revitalise local industries, promote value processes in agriculture as a way of addressing the high level of unemployment and poverty in the country,” he concluded.
