NIRA Unveils 2016 Unique .NG Web Nominees

The Nigeria Internet Registration Association, NIRA, managers of the country’s Internet real estate, is inviting the Internet community to choose the best as nominees for the 2016 .ng Web Awards.

NIRA says .ng Web Awards co-located with its Gala Night will recognise the excellent achievements of members, stakeholders and the general public, “who have contributed towards building a sustainable economy using technology relevant to the Domain Name System (DNS) industry”.

According to NIRA, “winners for each category will be determined through online voting and decisions of a Competent Award Jury selected purely on merit. NIRA has invited the Internet community to vote for their preferred choice on the association website”.
Based on the award criteria adopted for the 2016 .ng Web Award, the company or organisation must have been registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and is doing business with a .ng domain name either at the second level or third level. The domain name must have been registered for at least six months.

According to NIRA, “for the 2016 .ng Web Awards, all qualifying websites were considered irrespective of whether they are hosted locally or not.”
The domain name managers said that winners in each category will gain access to the .ng Web Award Icon, which is available in various sizes and formats for inclusion on websites and marketing collateral. The 2016 .ng Web Awards nominees as announced by NIRA are:
Technology Company of the Year. This recognises companies that have demonstrated excellence in innovation and a commitment to the technology community while embracing sound business fundamentals.   This category is reserved for companies that have been established for more than five years.
Most Innovative Web Company/Organisation: This award recognises organisations with the highest investment in their online presence that promotes innovation and marketing.    Best Banking Website/Portal: This award recognises the bank websites that delivers the best user experience based on excellence in navigation, design and innovation.
Best Educational Institution website/portal:This award recognises the tertiary institution/university with the best website/portal based on how current the website is, level of local content populated on the website, ease of use, relevance of the website for delivery of educational services, how dynamic the website is amongst other things.

Technology Start-up Company of the year:This award is aimed at encouraging start-ups that promote the growth of local content under the .ng domain name platform. Company must not be older than four years.
Best Hosting Company: This award aims to continuously encourage the growth of local website hosting companies in Nigeria. To qualify for this category, content must be hosted in Nigeria.
Media Award recognises excellence in journalism and other media-related activities. This category is open to all media houses in Nigeria: print, online and television. This award is judged based on the level of local and original content promoted by such websites.
Best State Government: This award recognises the State Government that have invested in technology to promote local content development.  Public Sector: Star Website Award. This award recognises the website/portal of the Government Agency that provides the best user experience.
NiRA Presidential Award for Youth Development:  This award category recognises and encourages the development of Youth in Nigeria. It is a NiRA Presidential award given to the Youth that have a combination of the best .ng website, best online local content and best use of ICT. This award is a special award to be presented by the President of NiRA.
NiRA Presidential Award for Women Development: This award aims to promote the participation and advancement of women in the ICT industry in Nigeria. It will encourage and stimulate the interest of young females to engage in ICT-related studies and subsequently, careers. This award will recognise the very best female in the ICT industry, celebrating her achievements, talents and reward her professional accomplishments. The award is a special award to be presented by the President of NiRA.
