There is an uneasy calm at the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC) following the alleged intimidation of the staff after the recent peaceful protest at the Commission’s headquarters, Abuja.

Our correspondent gathered that the strike by the staff under the auspices of Trade Union Congress, (TUC) two weeks ago, has degenerated into the alleged ‘militarisation’ of the headquarters complex.

In order to resolve the crisis bedeviling the Commission, the Federal Government had set up an Investigative Committee headed by the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Abdulkadir Musa, and was given five days to submit its findings.

The Committee was said to have concluded its assignment on Monday last week and was expected to submit the reports to President Goodluck Jonathan through the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Olusegun Aganga.

It would be recalled that the staff, had during the strike locked the NIPC headquarters located in Maitama, Abuja for three days to protest the alleged “incompetence, high-handedness, fraudulent practices, intimidation and lack of capacity by the Executive Secretary, Ms. Saratu Umar to provide good leadership for the Commission”.
