National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has shifted to January 9, 2016, as new deadline for all ministries and agencies to align their operations to NIMC’s unified database.

The agency had earlier set today, September 1, 2015, as date for all MDAs to commence mandatory use of the National Identity Number (NIN) of individuals for all identification purposes.

The shift in date, a NIMC’s statement in Abuja said,  is in response to  recent directive by President Muhammadu Buhari for all agencies to harmonize their biometric databases.

NIMC explained that the new deadline would also enable it advance ongoing efforts at harmonization with some key agencies, including the CBN, FIRS, PenCOM, NHIS, INEC, and Federal Ministry of Agriculture, among other agencies.

The identity management body also disclosed plans to provide pre- enrolment services on smart phone to enable all citizens begin their enrollment before proceeding to NIMC registration center.

This, the agency said, will help decongest large turnout at registration centers across the country.
