President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick, has explained why the contract it entered with Nike had no retainership fee, saying that the federation negotiated from a position of weakness.

His explanation came on Tuesday as Nike queried the NFF over report in the Nigerian media about the deal signed recently.

This much was dropped by NFF General Secretary, Mohammed Sanusi, who pleaded for media support in the rebuilding work embarked upon by the new NFF leadership. He said that the report put the contract in a bad light.

Speaking in Abuja on Tuesday, Pinnick noted regrettably that even though the last three years were glorious years for Nigerian football in terms of performance at the continental and global stages, these successes did not translate to good business as the federation was treated with disdain.

He observed that almost all kit wear firms were not prepared to touch the federation with a long pole, attributed this to incessant crisis that has become the lot of Nigerian football in recent times.

He said that the federation could not have gotten a better deal, coming against the backdrop of dramatic manner adidas refused to renew its contract.
