Nigeria’s Super Eagles Ranks 61st In FIFA Rankings

The Nigerian national football team have moved up six notches in the latest FIFA rankings released by the world football governing body on Thursday.

The upward movement for the Super Eagles is coming on the heels of their back-to-back victories in recent friendly games against Mali and Luxembourg.

The Super Eagles, who were ranked 67th in May, are now occupying the 61st position in the world, but they remain outside the top ten teams in Africa at 12th place.

The Desert Foxes of Algeria remain highest ranked team in Africa while Argentina is the number team in the world.

Cote d’ivoire, Ghana, Senegal, Egypt, Tunisia, Cape Verde Island, Congo DR, Guinea, Cameroon, Congo make up the top 10 teams on the continent.

As highlighted by FIFA, the top movers were Slovakia and Madagascar. The Europeans climbed eight positions to take 24th place, while the island nation located off Africa’s southeast coast climbed 29 positions into 108.

The regional composition of the Top 50 this month is: UEFA (29), CONMEBOL (8), CAF (7), CONCACAF (4) AFC (2), OFC (0).

In all, 45 international friendlies were included in calculating the latest ranking, along with four 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification matches for the OFC region.

The next FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking will be published on 14 July 2016.
