Nigerians have congratulated Tee Morgan for successfully participating and completing one of the world’s most grueling sporting challenges, the North Pole Marathon race.

The Nigerian, who proudly waved her flag at the end of the race was among the 45 competitors, who entered the event on April 9th, with participants from different countries and races.

The race is run on small, 2.62-mile loop about 10 times over hard snow or the frozen ice of the Arctic Ocean. Snipers were placed around the running circuit to protect the athletes from polar bears or other dangerous animals.

First to comment was the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) technical committee member, Yusuf Alli, who described her achievement as humbling. “Though, I don’t know her, but having heard of this feat and being the first Nigerian, I doff my hat for her and I hope the federation and all Nigerians will acknowledge this effort for a handsome reward.”

Former top female hurdler, Maria Usifo, said she was elated that a Nigerian woman has done the country proud. “This is the kind of feat that Nigeria should encourage. Other countries would jump at it with celebrations, but here, we are going to wait until her adopted country (Britain) begins to remind us.”

After finishing the grueling race, said, “As today, I raised the Nigerian flag to become the first Nigerian woman to ever step foot on the North Pole and run a marathon. Words will fail me to describe how I feel. I really thought I wasn’t going to make it because I had a soft snow on my knee, but I fought to the end.”

Other athletes too numerous to be mentioned also ecstatic over Morgan’s heart thumping achievement, their reactions in the social media were apt and gladdening.

Morgan parents are from Warri Delta-State. The 41 years old have been married for 21 years, with four sons.
