Lagos – Samson Lawal, who was recently elected the new Director of Professional Golfers Association of Nigeria (PGAN) planned to overhaul the association.
The director told Independent on Thursday in Lagos that there was need to address the welfare of the PGAN members to give them a sense of belonging.
“The new PGAN board will make welfare as a priority. The professional players need to be treated as truly professionals.
“The professionals should be proud of their career, just like their counterparts in other climes. But this can only happen when they are living a good life,” he said.
The director is also mindful of the dearth of tournaments for the professionals, “There is the need for more tournaments and of course, quality tournaments to improve the standard of the professionals’ game.”
In this regard, he called for support of the PGAN members from well-meaning Nigerians and corporate organisations.
The new PGAN board also has Lawrence Mathew of Ikoyi Club 1938, Lagos as Director of Operations and Uche Eze of IBB Club, Abuja as Tournament Director.
