Nigerian Military Hands Over 275 Cleared Boko Haram Terrorist Suspects To Borno State Government

The Nigerian Army on Friday at Maimalari Cantonment in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital handed over 275 Boko Haram terrorists suspects after the screening by its intelligence unit to Governor Kashim Shettima to re-unite them with their families.
The freed Boko Haram suspects comprised of 142 males, 49 females, 22 under-aged, 50 children of cleared females, 2 Nigerians, 2 Cameroonians while 8 cases that are criminal in nature are to be transferred to Nigerian police for further action.

In his welcome address, the Theatre Commander of Operation Lafia Dole, Major General Hassan Umoru said he is privileged to formally hand over the cleared terrorists suspects to the Borno State government through Governor Kashim Shettima.
Gen Umoru congratulated the suspects who were about to regain their freedom and commended the efforts of the army interrogation team who worked tirelessly to make the day a reality.
Speaking shortly after receiving the suspects, Governor Kashim Shettima said the day bears another testimony of a sense of professionalism, justice, equity and fairness of the Nigerian Army.
“This 275 suspects were picked from various locations at different times and were adjudged to be clean after thorough investigations by the Nigerian Army and are being released to Borno State government to re-unite them with their families.
This bears testimony as I said earlier to the fact that we are running a professional and disciplined force contrary to insinuations from several quarters, insinuating on extra judicial killings, arbitrary detentions and dehumanization of citizenry ” The governor emphasized
This is about the third time we are receiving Boko Haram detainees to be re-united With their families.
 For our brothers and sisters who have regained freedom, I urge you to be good ambassadors, to go back home and be the catalyst for promoting peace in your respective communities, ” Governor Kashim Shettima stated.
He promised to provide training on skills acquisition to the men and women while those of school age among them will be enrolled to various schools in the state.
The Governor commended the efforts of the Nigerian Military to see that insurgency is brought to an end.
In his closing remarks, the GOC 7TH Division of Nigerian Army, Brig Gen Victor Ezugwu said professionalism and regards to rules of engagement made it possible for the 275 cleared persons to be saved.
He appealed to the soldiers not to relent in respect of the rule of engagement in course of the war, adding that Nigerians should rally round the military to defeat the insurgents and bring total peace to the North-east and Nigeria at large.
Gift items were presented to the 275 freed suspects who sang the National Anthem joyfully to the admiration of all.
