As Nigerians and the business community continue lament the state of infrastructure in the country, Josiah Edmond, director of Strategy for Smyna Supply Chain Consulting, has called on the Federal Government to provide an enabling environment for business to thrive.

He said that the business environment in the country is challenging and stifling, saying that it has a lot of potential.

According to him, “There are opportunities and challenges that manufacturers and business people face in doing business the in country.”

Edmond stated that funding a business is one thing and creating the enabling environment for the business to thrive is another, adding that there is need to improve infrastructure in country for business to thrive.

He said that there are other elements needed for business to thrive, adding that government has a role to play in creating awareness and be supportive of business people and small and medium enterprises to help them grow. He stated that if businesses grow, they would employ more people, saying that this will in turn help the economy to grow.

The director of Strategy for Smyna Supply Chain Consulting said his firm trains staff and implements systems that make businesses to be profitable and effective, adding that his outfit helps manufacturers to improve their business and do better and be more competitive in the market place.

According to him, “We can help a business to grow its market by helping get more customers in the country and overseas. We help them to improve their business through making its business and manufacturing activities more effective, reducing cost and becoming more competitive in the local market”.

To do this, he said his firm needs to know why the client is not doing well, adding there could be a number of reasons why business is failing. This may be because the business process is expensive and at the end of the day it is not making money. “It may be because the market is not there or they do not know how to source the market very well or harness the market or other reasons”, he stated.
