Nigeria’ll Do Well At Rio Olympics – Dalung

The Minister for Youths and Sports Solomon Dalung has said Nigeria will do well at the 2016 Rio Olympics, pledging to that the sports ministry would do everything possible to make sure that Nigerian athletes are top contenders at the Games.

Dalung, who spoke at the Nigeria Sports Awards ceremony in Lagos on Friday, reiterated his commitment to rid the sports sector of corruption.

The minister said he would focus on making the sector transparent in order to attract private-sector investments.

On Nigeria’s preparations for Olympics, Dalung said, “Anybody going to the Olympics will have Nigeria to contend with because we are doing everything possible to ensure that we are ready to challenge any other country that comes to the Olympics.”

D’Tigers Chamberlain Oguche won the award of the Ball Sports Person of the Year; Efe Ajagba won the award of the Combat Sports Person of the Year; Yabuku Adesokan won the Special Sports Person of the Year award; while Tosin Oke won the Track and Field Star of the Year award.

Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa won the Footballer of the Year (men) award; Ngozi Okobi won the award of the Football of the Year (women); Team of the Year went to D’Tigers; while the Sports Journalist of the Year (print) award went to Punch journalist, Tan Aiyejina.
