LAGOS – The Super Falcons of Nigeria have been drawn against old rivals, Black Queens of Ghana, in the Group B of the 2016 Africa Women Cup of Nations starting in November in Yaoundé, Cameroon. Mali and Kenya are the other countries in the group.

Hosts, Cameroon, are drawn in Group A alongside Egypt, South Africa and Zimbabwe. It will be recalled that both South Africa and Zimbabwe featured at the last Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Super Falcons are the defending champions of the Women Cup of Nations and they will open their account against Ghana. The Nigerian women have dominated the championship with a record 9 triumphs with Equatorial Guinea being the other country to have won the continental title.

Meanwhile, Kenyan women are making their debut in the championship but have reached the final of the East and Central African regional event in Uganda where they will face off Tanzania in the final.

The Black Queens have never won the continental cup even though they have lost on three finals – 1998, 2002 and 2006.

Cameroon are looking to go one step better than two years ago at the finals in Namibia where they were runners-up to Nigeria.

Since then the Indomitable Lionesses have gained in experience with a first ever appearance at the World Cup as they reached the last 16 in Canada last year.

South Africa and Zimbabwe will be hoping to improve on their showing at the Rio Olympics where they managed just a single point between them, from Banyana Banyana’s goalless draw with Brazil.

Egypt’s only other appearance at the finals was in 1998 when they lost all three of their group matches and conceded 14 goals.
