Governor Abubarkar Sani Bello of Niger State on Thursday announced the dissolution of the 25 Local Government Council Caretaker Committees with effect from Wednesday, June 24, 2015.

Consequently, the Caretaker Committee Chairmen have been directed to handover all official documents in their possession to the Directors of Personnel Management (DPM) in their respective council areas.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Dr. Ibraheem Dooba, disclosed this while addressing newsmen at Government House, Minna, on Thursday. In order to avoid creating vacuum in council administration, Dooba said the Directors of Personnel Management in all the 25 local government councils have been directed to ‘take charge’ until further notice.

When asked of the legal implications of the state governments’ action, Dooba said Governor Bello consulted widely before the dissolution and expressed optimism that the new order will have no negative consequences on the All Progressive Congress (APC) administration.
