The All Progressives Congress (APC), Niger State, has dissociated itself from marginalization claims by Senator David Umaru, representing Niger-East (Zone B).

The party said, on the contrary, the state was being carried along in the scheme of things by the national leadership of the APC.

The crisis over appointments into key position of people by Governor Sani Bello of Niger state climaxed a fourth night ago with the governor and Senator Umaru in war of words over fair representation of all the three senatorial zones in the current dispensation in the state.

While Senator Umaru is insisting that somebody from zone B should be appointed Secretary to State Government (SSG), the party in a statement signed by the Publicity Secretary, Mr. Jonathan Vatsa faulted the Senator’s claims.

The APC spokesman in Niger state said the party is in the picture of appointments so far made by Governor Bello which does not suggest marginalization of any zone and advised members of the party to be patient with the government because the cabinet is yet to be formed and more appointments will be made.

Jonathan Vatsa, however, explained that the state chairman of the party, Engineer Jibrin Imam, is from Zone B and wondered why the party chairmanship position does not mean anything to Senator David Umaru.

He said: “We always maintain that the appointment made by the Governor Sani Bello so far was his prerogative and should not be subjected to any political considerations, though he consulted the party and we told him to put all the zones into considerations in constituting his cabinet.

“The Chief of Staff is from Niger-east (Zone B), Secretary to the state Government Niger-north (Zone C) and Head of Service Niger-south (Zone A), Moreover by political spread the Governor is from Zone C, the Deputy from Zone A and the Speaker from Zone B.”
