Mr Oyebisi David, the Programme Director, Educational Empowerment and Orientation (EPO), an NGO, has called for the re-introduction of teacher training colleges in Nigeria.

David said in Lafia on Friday that the measure became necessary in view of falling standard of education in the country.

According to him, the scrapping of teacher training colleges by some states has affected teacher education in the country.

“The re-introduction of teacher training colleges will help the education sector in the country to regain its lost glory and save it from imminent collapse.

‘’Such colleges established in the wisdom of the founding fathers are to enhance teaching, especially at primary and post-primary levels,’’he said.

David also hinged falling standard of education on inconsistent government policies and programmes on education, suggesting that priority should be given to human capital development in the sector.

He promised his organisation’s partnership with the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) for the training and re-training of teachers to enhance their capacities.
