The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has denied reports it is planning to sack the coaches of the Flying Eagles.

The team crashed out in the round of 16 of the FIFA U-20 World Cup after losing 1-0 to Germany despite high expectations for the team to excel at the tournament.

NFF announced it was not renewing the contract of Edwin Okon as the Super Falcons coach, replacing him with his first assistant, Christopher Danjuma, albeit temporarily.

The move not to retain Okon has however birthed reports the NFF is on a ‘cleaning mission’, with the coaches of the Flying Eagles, led by Manu Garba, the next to be shown the exit door.

But NFF General Secretary, Sanusi Mohammed, has revealed that they have no plans to dispense with the coaches of the Flying Eagles.

“I have heard rumors we are about to sack the Flying Eagles coaches,” Sanusi said, “I don’t know where those rumors are coming from.

“As far as I know, there is nothing like that, we have no plans to that effect. There is nothing being done about the U20 coaches at the moment,” Sanusi said.

When quizzed further on whether the coaches will eventually be sacked, Sanusi insisted that the coaches remain.

“Nobody has sacked them, so they remain the coaches of the U20,” Sanusi added.
