House of Representatives lawmakers on Tuesday tasked the Committee on Sports to invite Solomon Dalung,  the Minister of Youths and Sports and management of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) with a view to amicably resolving the lingering crisis rocking the football house.
The resolution followed a motion under matters of urgent public importance sponsored by Prestigious Ossy wherein he recalled that trouble started when a Federal High Court sitting in Jos, the Plateau State capital, recently nullified the election of Amaju Pinnick and declared Chris Giwa as the winner of the said election.
The lawmaker in his argument said: “Since the declaration of Chris Giwa the winner of the September 30, 2014 election and the invalidation of the substantive President of the Nigerian Football Federation by the court, the in-fighting has escalated.”
“It took the timely Intervention of officers and men of the Nigerian Police to prevent a total breakdown of law and order at the headquarters of the NFF on July 12, 2015,” Ossy told the House.
Hon. Ossy lamented that the crisis in the NFF would affect the chances of qualifying for the next FIFA world cup and its performances at the coming Olympic games in Brazil.
Ossy said he has it on good authority that Gianni
Infantino, the FIFA President, would soon visit the country and it would not be good if he visits the football at a time of crisis.
The motion was adopted and passed by presiding Speaker Yakubu Dogara having put to a voice vote via a question.
The Committee is to report back to the House within two weeks for further legislative input.
