Flying Eagles assistant coach, Nduka Ugbade, has revealed that all 21 players that represented Nigeria at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in New Zealand merited their place despite reports that the technical crew accepted bribe.

The Africa champions crashed out in the last 16 of the tournament after losing 1-0 to Germany.

However, reports in some quarters revealed that some of the players listed in the final squad didn’t merit the spot, something Ugbade has debunked.

Ugbade, who captain the Golden Eaglets to win the 1985 U-16 World Cup in China PR, insisted that the best players were selected from the U-17 team that won the trophy in UAE two years ago coupled with the ones that were discovered by the technical crew for the tournament.

‘Every player that went to Germany were all good, it’ll not be in our interest to drop players but we know that when things go wrong people say all sort of things, I know this much because am a Nigerian. But nobody quips a word when things turn out well; and it’ll be jubilation all day.’
