The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has donated N5 million worth of relief materials to 2,926 victims of gun attacks in Donga Local Government Area of Taraba State.

Alhaji Muhammed Sidi, Director General of the agency, presented the items to the three camps of Tor Damisa, Model Primary School and Dozomga.

He told the internally displaced persons (IDPs) that the relief materials were meant to alleviate their sufferings and not compensation to what they have lost.

“I want to make it clear that these relief materials we have brought to you are to alleviate your sufferings while the government is trying to restore peace in your communities.

“You must therefore try on your part to tolerate one another and assist government in finding lasting solutions to the unfortunate attacks in your communities,” Sidi said.

Represented by the agency’s Head of Gombe Operations Office, Alhaji Saidu Mini, Sidi assured the IDPs of Federal Government’s commitment to ensure that peace reigned in all the rural and urban communities in the country.

Mr Barnabas Ibrahim, the Caretaker Chairman of the local government, thanked NEMA for the gesture.

Ibrahim, who was represented by the councillor representing Fada Ward, Alhaji Abubakar Inuwa, appealed to the federal and state governments to deploy more security operatives to the area.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that items donated included: 100 bags of rice, 100 bags of beans, 100 bags of maize, 1,000 pieces of mattresses, 700 bundles of roofing sheets and 1,000 pieces of wax prints, among others.
