The Zonal Co-coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in Borno State, Alhaji Mohammed Kanar, has described as untrue some insinuations in the social media (Twitter) that internally displaced people (IDPs) in the state are not well-fed.

The coordinator also regretted that even a letter was addressed to the higher authorities of the agency on the same complaint, saying that it was a calculated attempt by some unscrupulous elements to smear the image and efforts of the stakeholders who are committed to ensuring that the humanitarian services being rendered at the IDPS camps are in line with global best practice.

Reports in the social media had claimed that the IDPs are not being taking care of, a situation that has pushed them into street begging  in the town.

“This is untrue as all stakeholders who are involved in this humanitarian service are committed to ensure it is in line with global best practice,” Kanar reiterated.

On camp coordination, the zonal coordinator told journalists during press conference at Barwee Hotel in

Maiduguri that NEMA and SEMA are coordinating all the activities in collaboration with humanitarian organisations and line ministries, IDPs’ committees and local government officials.

According to him, their activities ar outlined as follows, supervision of daily food cooking activities through the  cooking committees, supervision of shelter and identification of gaps, facilitation of IDP’s access to safe drinking water and water for other purposes, medical issues, psychosocial support to affected population, and working with security forces to ensure safety of IDPS in the camps.
