As mixed reactions continue to trail the appointments made so far by President Muhammadu Buhari, which seemed to have excluded the South East, some Igbo monarchs have said that the people of the region were the architect of their fate. They therefore urged their people to dry their tears, even as they hailed Buhari on his policy direction.

Speaking in separate interviews with our reporter, the stakeholders said that although President Buhari seemed to have breached the federal character and constitution by the seeing skewed nature of his appointments, the Igbo must remain calm and support the administration rather than complain. The traditional ruler of Igbariam, who is also Chairman, Traditional Rulers Council, Anambra North Senatorial District, HRM Eze Dr. Kelly Nzekwe, said that the Igbos did not merit President Buhari’s appointment after rejecting him at the poll.

His said: “Why are they crying over mere appointment? So they want Buhari to appoint them into his cabinet after rejecting him at the poll? It is impossible. They should cry very well. If I am Buhari I will not give them any position. You know when he was contesting, did you voted for him? You did not vote for him. You want him to give you job so that you can enjoy the fruits of other peoples labour?

“You can’t reap what you did not sow; let them support his administration, he may likely change his mind and appoint them one day. I support every government in power. And I can’t beg Buhari to appoint Igbos. Our people should stop crying and complaining and rather give the new administration maximum support”.

Similarly, Eze Obidiegwu Onyenso, the Traditional Ruler of ancient Nri Kingdom in Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State, described the controversial appointments as a step in right direction, and urged his people to be wise and submissive to the new administration irrespective of the situations at hand, because according to him, the country remains one entity and nothing shall break her, appointment or no appointment.

Chief Titus Anigbogu, the Vice Chairman, All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Anambra South Senatorial Zone, while praising President Buhari on his war against corruption advised him to run an all inclusive government, stressing that Buhari is President of all Nigerians. However, Hon. Barr Obi Nweke, Chairman of APGA in Anambra East who is also overall Chairman of all APGA LGA Chairmen in the State urged Buhari to respect the federal character in his appointments, arguing that the biased appointment would not augur well for the country.
