N/Delta  Ex-Militants Threaten ‘Strike’ Over Delayed Emoluments

Niger Delta ex-militants under the amnesty programme have expressed displeasure over the delayed payment of their emoluments for the month of May, describing it as a deliberate attempt to undermine their genuine purpose of building the peace in the region for government to fulfill its promises. One of the ex-agitators (name withheld) disclosed that they have already decided their next line of action in a secret resolution weekend, and that they had also decided to wait for the expiration of this week before they would carry out what was necessary.

When asked if there was any prior warning to government on their grievance before their planned action, he said there was no need for any warning as that would portray them as toothless backing dogs.

He said, “There is no need to blow trumpet about our grievances and what we have resolved to do. The government knows what they are doing; the delayed payment of our emoluments is deliberate. I cannot tell you anything more than that because the world knows who we are and our struggle, that’s all I can tell you.”
