The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has trained 50 women in Nasarawa State on cosmetology under its Women Employment Branch (WEB) Programme.

The NDE Coordinator in the state, Alhaji Daudu Idris-Wase, disclosed this when he addressed participants of the programme in Lafia, the state capital.

Idris-Wase said the programme was designed to create jobs and reduce unemployment, especially among women.

He explained that participants of the five-day programme were trained on use of local raw materials to produce soaps, perfumes, disinfectants, insecticides, bleach, body lotions, air freshener, among others.

“The weeklong programme is designed to create opportunities for the unemployed women to be engaged in productive ventures to better their lot and contribute their quota to the development of the nation,’’ Idris-Wase said.

He added that apart from the skills acquisition programme, the women were also exposed to basic business training which would equip them with the requisite ideas to start and run their businesses.

According to him, over 2,000 women have so far benefited from such trainings organised by the NDE in the state since 2008.

He, therefore, called on the people of the state to take advantage of all NDE programmes, which were rendered free-of-charge, to improve their economic fortunes, create jobs and reduce poverty in the society.

He also appealed for synergy with the state government through its various programmes, which were in tandem with the government policies aimed at tackling unemployment.

On her part, Hajiya Hadiza Sabo, President of the Market Women Association of Nigeria, in Nasarawa State, encouraged women to embrace different skills acquisition programmes to contribute to the growth of their families and the country.
