No fewer than 30 unemployed youths trained by the National Directorate of Employment in Kogi State have been resettled with working tools worth N6 million as a  start-up capital for their  businesses.
Presenting working tools to the beneficiaries in Lokoja, Mr. Kunle Obayan, NDE Acting Director General, said the initiative was part of the President Muhammadu Buhari’s change agenda aimed at addressing the high rate of unemployment.
The NDE boss who was represented by Mr. Jibrin Aye, its North Central Zonal Director, said similar empowerment programmes were being carried out for over 400 beneficiaries across 17 other states of the federation to enable them to be self-reliant.
The beneficiaries who were trained in catering services, fashion design, photography, interior decoration, shoemaking, hair dressing, barbing and computer operations, were presented with relevant tools to enable them start their businesses.
Obayan advised all unskilled and unemployed young Nigerians to take advantage of the various Programmes of the NDE to exit joblessness, adding that the desire of the agency over the years was to empower more unemployed youths.
He called on well-meaning individuals and those in the private sectors to assist government in addressing the ‘monster of youth unemployment’, saying the NDE alone would not be able to handle the problem.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Onuakpa Benjamin Bob, thanked the Federal Government for the gesture and promised the tools would be judiciously utilised to improve their well-being.
Mr. Arome Adoji, Special Adviser to Kogi State governor on Youth and Sports, in his remarks commended the initiative by NDE, saying the state government would collaborate with the agency in its efforts at addressing youth unemployment.
