NDDC Is An Interventionist Agency To Accelerate Infrastructural, Human Devt

The Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, was established as an interventionist agency that will in conjunction with other tiers of government accelerate infrastructural and human development in the Niger Delta region.

The Commissioner Representing Delta State on the board of the Commission, Chief Tom Amioku, said weekend, when the commission commenced the inauguration of another phase of completed projects in Delta State with over 40 of the projects slated for the exercise.

The Commissioned projects include, two Landing Jetties at Ogriagbene, upgraded School Infrastructure at Government College, Bomadi, both in Bomadi Local Government Area, Odorubu-Imiwhere road in Patani and another road that link the Odorubu main road to the Customary Court, Patani, in Patani Local Government area.

While performing the ceremonies on behalf of the management, he said the projects were fully sponsored by the Commission, aimed at enhancing quality of lives of the people, stating that the commissioning of the projects marks a significant milestone in the complimentary efforts of the NDDC in the development of the Niger Delta region.

The first day of the exercise saw the inauguration of six completed projects located in parts of the state as well as inspection of some of the executed projects to ascertain their readiness for formal handing over to the benefitting communities. An ultra-modern NDDC Skill Acquisition Centre also located at Patani and a Solar Powered Water Project at Okpara Waterside in Ethiope East LGA were commissioned.

He said development is a task the commission had vigorously pursued with all seriousness with the commissioning of several star projects across the member states of the NDDC, disclosing that in Delta State, the Commission in the last six months commissioned a number of projects across the state, including the 42 kilometer Iselegu-Utagba Unor road, the ultra modern fully furnished 174 prototype Hostel  Project at the Delta State University, Abraka, and only recently the 132KV Transmission line and two 30MVA, 132-33KV substation in Oghara, Ethiope East LGA among others.

The commissioner assured of more people oriented projects as the present board of the NDDC intends to make a difference in bringing development to all the states of Niger Delta region.
