Asaba – The contractor handling the  road project in Ogwashi-Uku, headquarters of Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State has  promised to complete within six weeks  the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) project awarded to him since 2014.

It was gathered that the contractor,  a former Senator, is under pressure to complete the project following an order purportedly given by President Muhammadu Buhari that all contracts awarded by the NDDC yet to be executed should be brought to the open.

The road project spanning Agidi Asei-Ogbeofu-Ogbe Ihago-Edo road in Ogwashi-Uku is said to be among roads drawn to the attention of the NDDC by Hon. Pascal Adigwe during his tenure as a member of the House of Representatives but was the only one considered by the Commission and awarded since 2014 to the ex-senator.

When contacted on the panic construction by the contractor after pocketing monies to execute the contract since 2014, Hon. Adigwe confirmed that he was one of those that attracted the road project to the community in 2014, but asked: “does it matter when the contract was awarded. Have you not been there and seen that work is going on?”

During a visit to the road project on Monday, the deplorable state of the road whenever it rains had been worsened by the movement of heavy machinery used for the construction while residents complained that they could not clear heaps of red sand  blocking the adjoining streets after they were beaten by rain.
