As the renewed war and onslaught against smuggling of  frozen poultry products rages, the headquarters monitoring team of the Nigeria Customs Service at Idiroko has intercepted 810 cartons of frozen poultry products.

The seized contraband was valued at N4, 374,000. Deputy Comptroller Yahaya Biri Usman who led the onslaught said the move was aimed at protecting local products.

The team coordinator, DCC Yahaya,  who conducted news men around the seizure prior to its destruction  said that his team had an effective synergy and collaboration with the resident Units and Commands of the NCS and remained totally resolute to eradicate the menace of smuggling.

He expressed the determination of the team to explore avenues of ensuring practical compliance with zero tolerance for smuggled poultry products.

He said that the  launch of Operation ‘Hawk Descend’ by the NCS  would  further boost the operational pedigree of his team towards ensuring that fiscal policies of the Federal Government in terms of trade was jealously guarded.

The Coordinator confirmed that his team alongside others were fully functionally equipped to tackle the smugglers and vowed that he would stop at nothing until sustainable success was achieved.

While fielding questions on the fate of the seized products, he said that they would be destroyed and buried at a designated site at the NCS premises Ikeja under the watch of critical agencies of government including NAFDAC.

He called on Nigerians to support the NCS in its anti-smuggling crusade through genuine information that would aid tracking of smugglers and their illicit transactions.
