NCC Tennis League Championship Match For Dec. 4 & Dec. 5

The match to decide winners of the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) Cup has been scheduled for Dec. 4 and Dec. 5 at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Onikan.

A statement released by the International Tennis Academy (ITA), the organisers of the league said the match between an Owerri-based Team, the Civil Defence and the Abuja-based Team Tombim would be featuring the best players in the country.

“We are expecting a great contest from these two teams because any of them could easily be the Davis Cup team for Nigeria.

“Team Civil Defence has Clifford Enosoregbe and Christie Agugbom current National men and women champions respectively.

“They are supported by former National champions Shehu Lawal and Abdulmumuni Babalola as well as Nonso Madueke’’.

On the Tombim side are the new generation of champions who hold the highest ATP ranking among National players.

Moses Michael, the defending champion of the Lagos Governor’s Cup and Christian Paul winner of the last Sports Festival tennis singles event are the lead male players supported by Sarah Adegoke the number. 2 ranked female player in the country.

The match will be preceded by the third place match between Team Ogun based in Abeokuta and Team Kalotari of Port Harcourt.

The match, which has N2 million for third place and N1 million for the fourth placed team would take place on Dec. 2 and Dec. 3 at LLTC.

The NCC Tennis League, which was launched in March has taken top flight tennis to eight different cities in the country — Kaduna, Onitsha, Asaba, Port Harcourt, Enugu, Abeokuta, Abuja and Lagos.

The competition offers a total prize money of N11 million with the winning team to take home the lion share of N5 million.
