A civil society group, Credible Alternative Alliance (CAA) has cautioned the incoming All Progressives Congress (APC) administration against deliberate subversion of the Nigerian constitution in the choice of who fills various positions in both chambers of the national Assembly.

National Coordinator of the group, Damian Ogbonna, in a release in Abuja, observed that the party seems bent on naming persons to the nation’s four topmost positions from a particular section of the country contrary to provision of the federal character commission.

He warned that unless urgent step is taken, the nation may wake up to find that the President, President of Senate, Speaker and Chief Justice of the federation all coming from same creed and section of the country.

Such negligent response to the sensibility of the different segments and persuasions, he said can only worsen suspicions and divisive tendencies with dire consequences for the polity.

Ogbonna, also the National chairman of Progressive Peoples Party (PPP) in the concluded 2015 polls,  noted that section 7-9 of the Third Schedule of the constitution went to great length in its mandate to the FCC to “ promote, monitor and enforce compliance with principle of proportional sharing in all bureaucratic, economic, media and political at all levels of government”.

A party which came to power on the mantra of positive change, according to him, cannot afford to start by enhancing on the things that divide.
