Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has urged his colleagues to do away with the crisis that has polarised the lower parliament since its inauguration on May 9 and concentrate on the job for which they were elected.

Dogara made the observation on Thursday while inaugurating the committee to review existing laws and law reform.

The Speaker said the eighth House of Representatives is resolutely committed to expeditious passage of  all major bills before it or submitted to it that will impact positively on the lives and wellbeing of Nigerians.

He noted that the major reason that informed the setting up of the committee was the urgent need to review the various laws in the Statute books which had become obsolete, anachronistic and outdated.

He explained that by the provision of Sections 315 of the Constitution, all existing laws, including the Military era legislations, were deemed to be Acts of the National Assembly

“Laws that aid the anti corruption struggle, infrastructure renewal, efficient and optimal utilization of our petroleum resources, solid minerals, education and social services, agriculture, diversification of our economy and massive employment of our teeming youthful population should engage our undivided attention as a parliament.

He stressed that law reform was one of the most critical and indispensable part of all reforms in a given society.
