LAFIA – The Nasarawa State chapter of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Thursday suspended indefinitely Abdullahi Alahi, the Chairman of Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), for allegedly threatening to back out from the industrial action embarked upon by NLC in the state.

Comrade Yusuf Sarki Iyah of the joint public negations council announced this while briefing journalists on the resolution of the meeting held at the Labour House in Lafia, the state capital.

He said despite the threat from the government side to replace unemployed graduates with members of the Nasarawa State workers, the union remained adamant to press home its demands.

Yusuf who explained that government tactically using divide and rule method, said the union has summoned all affiliate bodies of tertiary institutions, legislative units and the judiciary to follow the suit for the interest of all workers in the state.

“The purpose of this meeting is to take decision on the industrial action embarked upon by the civil servants in Nasarawa State since last week. Something came to us along the line.

“That is to say that there was an action being exhibited by one of our member, that is one of the affiliate bodies – Abdullahi Alahi, chairman of NULGE. Moreover, in the meeting we looked at issues and the action he has exhibited.

“We felt it is insult to the Labour movement in Nasarawa State and unconstitutional and so both state and local executive council have agreed to suspend him indefinitely for what he has exhibited to serve as deterrence to others,” he said.
