The Zone D (South West) chapter of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has appealed to the Provost of the Federal College of Agriculture, Akure, Ondo State, Dr Samson Adeola Odedina, to make provision for employing its members in the institution.

NANS made the request while honouring Odedina with the ‘Outstanding Leadership Award’ on the campus, recently. The event, which also coincided with the chapter’s zonal convention, held at the Federal College of Agriculture, Akure, Ondo State.

The programme, which had participating institutions from all the six south western states of Nigeria, also had in attendance the NANS Joint Campus Committee (JCC) chairmen of the respective states, over 55 student union presidents, past leaders of the organization and a representation of the student community of the host institution.

The Zone D Coordinator of NANS, Asefon Sunday, who welcomed all delegates and read the agenda for the convention, commended the leadership of the college for clear vision of transforming the college and making graduates self-reliant and thoroughly bred.

In his remarks, Odedina expressed satisfaction with NANS’ decision to bring the zonal convention to the institution. He further highlighted the various transformations the college had experienced since the inception of his administration, especially on students welfare, as evident by the drastic reduction of school fees, abolition of excursion fees, provision of good student learning environment, good management-student union relationship, among other things.

He further admonished the delegates to explore the leadership opportunities NANS would afford them, as he was certain that the delegates would be part of the core of the future leaders of Nigeria.

NANS Coordinator, Comrade Asefon, presented the Outstanding Leadership Award to Odedina, making a request for the provision of employment opportunities for NANS members.

In his response, Odedina dedicated the award to all the students of Federal College of Agriculture, Akure. He also intimated the audience of ongoing agricultural value chain projects (in collaboration with four international partners and the Federal Government of Nigeria) in the college, which would in turn provide many employment opportunities for past and present students.
