A high level technical team of Agency for the Safety of Aerial Navigation in Africa and Madagascar (ASECNA) and Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has commenced the links between Lagos-Lome, Lagos-Malabo and Kano-Lome. This is to further enhance safety and seamless airspace coordination within the Africa Indian Ocean (AFI) region.

Managing Director of NAMA, Engr. Ibrahim Abdulsalam, said yesterday in Lagos, that the commencement of the links follows recent visit by ASECNA team to Nigeria, where both organizations reached agreements on collaboration, harmonisation and standardisation of Communication Navigation and Surveillance (CNS) and Air Traffic Management (ATM) infrastructure between both agencies.

A team of engineers from ASECNA already arrived the country for the purpose of setting up coordination links between Lagos–Lome, Lagos-Malabo and Kano-Lome.

Abdulsalam said that ASECNA technical staff, which was drawn from the agency’s headquarters in Senegal and Togo, are expected to work closely with NAMA officials to effect the installation of base band equipment and satellite modems, including configurations and tests between Lagos and Kano.

This, he said, would bring about a successful integration and coordination between Nigeria and its Francophone neighbours. “This project is part of the larger agreement reached with ASECNA on a working partnership that would make for  seamless and inter-operable systems across the region and you can rest assured that the safety of the African sky is our primary consideration,” he said.
