NAFDAC Staff Move Against Finance Director

Members of staff of Nigeria’s food and drug regulatory body, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), have called to the agency’s management to invoke necessary disciplinary actions against its Director of Finance and Accounts, Ademola Mogbojuri.

The workers on the platform of the Medical and Health Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MHWUN) were miffed that the director has refused to resume as head of the agency’s training institute in Kaduna following his redeployment there.

The staff, who made their position known during a press conference at the weekend in Lagos, were particularly not happy that, weeks after his redeployment in an exercise that included many other heads of directorates, Mogbojuri was seemingly being treated as a sacred cow.

“We had a lot of issues with the Finance and Accounts director in the past but we were happy our plea was finally heard but a situation where he is resisting is as if we have some super directors who are above the law.

“In the union, it is our conviction that the management should not rescind its decision. This is in the best interest of NAFDAC,” the union chairman, Attah Ibrahim, said.

Ibrahim recalled that the union had last November embarked on strike to press home their demand for improved welfare among others but regretted that the issues were yet to be adequately addressed.

The NAFDAC MHWUN chairman added: “Our members have been at the receiving end of bad management, especially in the hands of Finance, Accounts, Administration and Human Resources Directorate respectively, which is why we embarked on strike action last year, demanding the removal of some directors who were constituting a clog in the wheel of fortune.”
