A member of House of Representatives, Hon. Chukwuemeka Ujam has condemned the recent murder of the traditional ruler of Nkerefi town, Nkanu East Local Government Area, Enugu State, Igwe P.A. Onuoha and three other natives of the community.

Hon. Ujam in a statement he released in Enugu at the weekend described the killings as barbaric and totally insane.

The lawmaker who represents Nkanu East/Nkanu West federal constituency said in a statement that “Saturday July 11, 2015 witnessed the gruesome assassination of Igwe Peter Onuoha, the traditional ruler of Isienu Amofu , Nkerefi and three others in Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu state.

“Igwe Onuoha, the Eze Na Chi 1, until his assassination was the Secretary of Nkanu East Traditional rulers’ council and the Managing Director of Posdonal Nigeria limited.

“The said assassination occurred at the wee hours of the night unnoticed and without any form of resistance by security operatives.

“It is very disturbing to note that the unknown gunmen engaged in sporadic shooting for a lengthy period of time leaving behind scores of community members who are currently receiving treatment at the Annunciation specialist Hospital Emene, Enugu

“I condemn in the strongest terms the gruesome murder of HRH Igwe Peter Onuoha, Daniel Ogbu, Ejike Udeme Uzor and Evelyn Udeme Uzor by some yet to be identified gunmen on Saturday July 11, 2015. This dastardly act to say the least is barbaric and totally insane” Ujam stated.

He pleaded with the people of Nkerefi Community to remain calm and law abiding while the police are conducting an investigation into the matter as the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the State has vowed that the police would bring the perpetrators of this heinous crime to book.
