A 19year-old boy Anosike Oluchukwu arrested on allegation that he beat a 13year-old boy, Nonso to death has appealed to the government and family of the deceased to have mercy on him.

Anosike said he felt so bad that the incident happened adding that it was the handiwork of devil. Anosike, an apprentice trader who reside at 7, Laye Gbadol Street, Katongowa, Abulegba was arrested in May by policemen from Iju Police Station (Red House) for allegedly killing a neighbour, Nonso. However, he said it was an accident and pleaded with the family of the deceased to forgive him.

He said, “I am a business man. I deal on electronics and generators. We have a shop at Agege-Pen Cenema and another one at Toyin area of Iju-Ishaga. My elder brother owned the two shops. I am the last born.

“I was arrested by police on 10th of May, 2015. I was playing with my neighbour, Nonso when he became unconscious and later died in an hospital. As it started, I was in front of my shop seated on a bench. The bench belong to Nonso’s manager. His manager, Ejike entered my shop and carried a chair, he called Nonso to come and drag the one I was seated on. Nonso came and started playing rough play with me. He said I must stand up from the chair. Both chairs belong to them, we are neighbours; we decided to use the chairs. I told him to collect another one inside my shop. That one belongs to me. He gave me a blow on my leg and my phone switched off. He ran away after that and l started calling him to come back, he refused. I pursued him and caught up with him. I told him that what he did was wrong. I held his hands and warned him not to repeat it again. I left him and went back to sit down. He came again with the rough play, he was hitting me, so I retaliated with a blow, as he tried to dodge it; it landed on his stomach. He was in pains and went back to their shop. His manager, Ejike put him on a bike and went home to their house at White House area.

When he came back, I asked him if he had taken him to the hospital, he said no. After about 30 minutes, his oga carried him in a vehicle to the hospital. When we got to the hospital, he was confirmed dead the same day.

“When we were playing this rough play, his manager, Ejike left us and entered into their shop. Another of my neighbour, Chinedu was there. They did not separate us. I did not allow them to collect the chair from me because we normally play together and use things collectively.

“In that line, we do things together and don’t believe that you own this or that. They boy is my good friend. He is from Delta State. He is like a brother. He just came to Lagos in January this year to learn trade. They own a boutique where they sold clothes. The shop is on Akande Street, Iju-Ishaga. His manager is from Ihiala, Anambra State. The boy is learning how to trade. We just knew our selves. He came to Lagos this January to lean trading. I was arrested on Sunday. The incident happened around 4.25pm that Sunday.”

The suspect who hails from 9th Mile in Ngwo, Enugu State according to the Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Police Command, Kenneth Nwosu, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, DSP has been transferred to the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti Street, Yaba for discreet investigation.
