Hundreds of motorists plying the Ife-Ilesa Express Road on Monday staged protest over what they described as incessant armed robbery at Ibodi Junction of the road.

The motorists blocked the road forcing all road users to park and join them in solidarity on the matter they said was assuming dangerous dimension.

Some of the drivers who spoke with newsmen lamented that there was frequent armed robbery along the road especially at Ibodi Junction adding that the hoodlums always escaped with their loots.

One Dauda Tiamiyu who spoke on the incident said that the road has been made notorious as the suspects normally stopped at the bad end of the road to perpetrate their evil acts.

Following the protest, the State Police Commissioner, Mr. Kola Sodipo deployed senior police officers with three additional patrol teams and Armored Personnel Carrier, (APC) to the area to maintain law and order.

The police also ensured that the blockage was cleared to allow for free flow of traffic.

The protest, though, disrupted the free flow of traffic for some hours, adequate numbers of policemen were deployed to the area to forestall the breakdown of law and order.

It would be recalled that sometime in April this year, two robbery suspects with firearms were arrested by the policemen on patrol and on several occasions, patrol teams have foiled robbery attacks and cleared barricades mounted by the robbers.

The State Commissioner of Police, Kola Sodipo urged the people of the state to remain law abiding and stay away from any act that is likely to disrupt the relative peace being enjoyed by the people of the State, adding that the police is not relenting in its quest to make every nook and cranny of Osun State free from criminal.
