MOSOP Warns On Delay, Predicts Street Protests

Meanwhile, the Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People (MOSOP) has warned that any further delay in the commencement of the clean-up exercise will provoke a street protest by the Ogoni in Nigeria and across the globe.

“We have patiently waited for this one month after the flag off. I don’t know why they are delaying the process. We are not happy with the approach they are adopting. We have been engaging the government and the assurance they gave to us is that from next week, something will start to happen.” said Fegalo Nsuke.

Nsuke stated that there is a need to set up a Governing Council, Board of Trustees and some other fundamental committees to manage the process so that the actual clean-up can start in earnest.

“There is no way anybody could do anything except these committees are set up. Funds need to be released in time. But, people’s patience is almost running out. I am not comfortable with the delay. I can assure you that if nothing is done urgently, then Ogoni will have no option but to take to the streets,” he stressed.
