Bauchi- The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party  (PDP) in Bauchi state has taken another dimension following the recent bombshell dropped by the  former Governor of Bauchi state, Mallam Isa Yuguda declaring his intention of dumping  the party. Yuguda’s exit from the party came as a surprise and shock to some PDP members in the state including some of his supporters as many described his exit as a huge setback and loss to the party which has been struggling to bounce back since the last general election where it lost woefully to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Yuguda, who was the leader of PDP in the state for 8 years lost relevant in the party after he contested for Senatorial seat in the 2015 election but was swept away by APC tsunami thereby losing the seat to the current Senator  Ali Wakili representing Bauchi South under APC. He disclosed his intention of dumping the party in a telephone interview with journalists in Bauchi and it was learnt that the former Governor was calling from London where he has since relocated to since he lost his senatorial ambition. Though Yuguda refused to disclosed  the party he was defecting to but it was gathered that the former Governor has plan of joining a new party identify as People’s Mega Party which is about to be formed by aggrieved members of some political parties in the country in order to regain his relevance in Bauchi politics. He said he decided to leave PDP because the party lacks political will to bring development to Nigeria saying lost confidence in the leadership style of PDP said the leadership has lost focus since the last general election where the party lost woefully to All Progressive congress (APC). Yuguda said he is yet to decide on which party to decamp to saying “I will consult with my supporters before I decide on the party to move to but I am still in politics but no longer in PDP. But in a letter addressed to the State Chairman of PDP, Yuguda said his exit from the party was due to the scandal which put the entire Northeast in danger at the time when he was the governor of Bauchi State saying “the misappropriation of the $2.1 billion that was meant for arms procurement to fight insurgency by the then PDP government  put the integrity of the members of PDP into question. “The arms scandal was very shocking such act by the then PDP government had brought the integrity of members of the party into question. After  known that the funds were embezzled which led to the death of thousands of women, children, young men and un-armed members of the Nigerian security forces has made it impossible for me to continue my membership of the party,” he said. Yuguda who prayed for President Muhammadu Buhari to succeed in his quest to bring back the lost glory of the country said ” we must always pray for the success of our leaders because the holy Quarantine admonish people  to pray for their leaders to succeed and that is why pray  for the success of President Buhari’s administration. With the absence of Isa Yuguda at the reconciliation meeting of the party in the state recently which was attended by some of the bigwigs in PDP which includes former Minister of FCT, Senator Bala Mohammed, former Deputy Governor of the state, Abdumalik Mahmood, former Senator who represented Bauchi North and Bauchi Central Senator Babayo Gamawa and Senator Abdul Ningi shows that Isa Yuguda has since concluded his plan to quit the party. Some analysts believe that Yuguda’s exit from the PDP will not augur well for the party which has been bedeviled with leadership crisis. This in turn, has torn the party apart thereby creating two factions. The faction led by Haruna Shitu has been alleged to be loyal to the former FCT Minister, Senator Bala Mohammed while the chairman, Yaro Yaro is enjoying the support of former Governor Isa Yuguda. A source from the PDP who does not want his name on print attributed the crisis rocking the party to the supremacy battle between the former Governor Isa Yuguda and former Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Bala Mohammed as the bad blood between the two leaders might be the brain behind the crisis that has engulfed the party because they are seriously fighting on who will be in control of the party. According to him, the bad blood between Yuguda and Bala has come to reality following the exit of Yuguda from the party because according to him, the recent recognition of Bala Mohammed by the national leadership of the party where he was appointed as a member of committee in preparation for the National convention may have forced Yuguda to leave the party because he was not consulted before Bala’s appointment. He said”Yuguda might have dump the party because of the recent development of the recognition given to Bala by the National leadership of PDP who we learnt did not consult Isa Yuguda before appointing Bala as the member of the committee. So, Yuguda will not want to be under Bala who served under him as Special Adviser when he was a Minister. Yuguda still wants to be in control of Bauchi politics so he will have to leave for another party in order to remain a Bauchi stronghold politician,” he said. According to him, Yuguda still want to be relevant in the state and as a result of these will prefer to decamp to another party where he will still play leadership role and accord due recognition.  Former member of House of Representatives that represented Ningi/Warji constituency, Abdulrazaq Nuhu Zaki said the exit of Yuguda from PDP would not affect the fortune of the party in the state. He described Yuguda’s exit as welcomed development that will rather bring unity to the party in the state. He said“Yuguda leaving the PDP has come as a happy and welcome development. With his exit, a huge yoke has been lifted off the neck of PDP in the state. Zaki said the party was engulfed by crisis that tore it apart and created factions by the leaders ?who want to take control of the party in the state .? “With God on our side, the PDP would emerge victorious in the coming elections as we are working hard to see that we reposition the party to the next level. Yuguda’s exit is blessing not only to the good people of the state but also generally to the well being of our great party in the country because the persistent crisis of leadership   will disappear. “We therefore wish to assure our National Chairman, Alhaji Ali Modu Sheriff  and the entire leadership of our great party of our unalloyed loyalty and support as he continues to pilot the affairs of the party PDP. As we journey towards 2019, we wish to state categorically that the exit of Yuguda  will not affect the fortune, progress and prosperity of our great PDP in the state. We urge the members of the party to remain and resolute towards rebuilding the party towards Victory. But a chieftain of PDP who spoke on condition of anonymity described Yuguda’s exit from PDP as a great loss to the party because according to him, Yuguda is a force to reckon with as far as Bauchi politics is concern. He said “Yuguda will surely leave PDP with his supporters and this may affect the chances of PDP in the state  come 2019 because if Yuguda  finally decamps to APC as it has been rumoured, Governor Mohammed Abubakar who has been allegedly referred to as Yuguda’s associate will enjoy Yuguda’s support and this will give Abubakar upper hand come 2019. “Yuguda also want to leave PDP in order to further frustrate Bala Mohammed who is nursing governorship ambition against 2019 because if Yuguda finally pinch his tent with APC alongside his supporters, APC will clinch the state in 2019. The Publicity Secretary of APC in the state, Auwalu Aliyu Jallah aid the party has not received any information of Yuguda’s plan to decamp to APC. “Even if Yuguda indicates plan to decamp to APC, he will have to go through the defection committee set up by the party for screening because the committee is saddled responsibility of screening and accepting new members. The committee will give him conditions to follow before we can register him and he must be willing to abide by the constitution of the party,” he said.
