Senator, representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye and his counterpart from Benue State, Barnabas Gemade, have said there is the need for Nigerians to imbibe standards and regulations for the country to attain economic growth and national development.

Both Senators spoke at the launching of a Book on Standardisation and Quality Regulation written by Acting Director General (DG) of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), Dr. Paul Angya.

Gemade, in his remarks said that Nigeria could only grow its economy from the current status through a conscious effort to regenerate internal production.

He said: “There is the need for the regeneration of internal production backed by standardization and quality regulation, which makes Angya’s book very relevant at this time.

“We no longer produce tyres, batteries, not even the fabrics that we used to. We must regenerate this aspect of our economic life as a country,” Gemade said.

Melaye on his part said, “We need to standardize our attitudes within the context of patriotism.”

He said this is the principal basis for the bill he has sponsored towards reversing the emphasis on state of origin for state of residence, which he said would allow every Nigerian to blossom wherever they are resident.
