Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Solomon Arase, has ordered commanding officers to beef up security around key and vulnerable installations in their jurisdictions ahead of the May 29 inauguration.

This was announced in a statement issued by the police spokesman, Emmanuel Ojukwu, in Abuja on Thursday, May 21, 2015.

In the statement, the IGP ordered zonal assistant inspector-generals (AIGs) and commissioners of police in states to take steps to protect critical infrastructure like mega filling stations, major hotels, National/state Houses of Assembly, and Eagle Square, Abuja.

The police stated that this was imperative to ward off possible plans by insurgents to carry out widespread violence and coordinated attacks on installations and public places ahead of May 29.

According to the statement, the insurgents plan to undermining the presidential and governorship inauguration ceremonies nationwide.

However, the police have mapped out strategies to provide water-tight security and ensure a hitch-free inauguration.
