Leader of the Movement for the Actualisation  of the Sovereign  State Of Biafra (MASSOB) Chief Raphael Uwazuruike, has commended  Ndigbo  for their massive support to ex-President Goodluck  Jonathan in the  last presidential election, noting that the  people of the  South-South geo political zone (Niger Delta) would continue to enjoy such a gesture from the Igbo in order to strengthen and consolidate the bond of unity between them and the South East.

The MASSOB Chief who spoke  at a ceremony marking the 2015  Biafra  Day Celebration held at the Ojukwu Memorial Library in Owerri, Imo State, noted that the Jonathan  Presidential election not only followed  the pattern of the Biafra-Nigeria Civil war, but  equally highlighted the fact  that the civil war had not  really ended.

“It was a war between the former  Eastern Region (Biafra) and Nigeria  and the outcome of that election justified our  resolve for self determination.”

Chief Uwazuruike who justified the emergence  of the  Biafra project said that it not only brings Ndigbo together, defines them as a people,  frightens others  about them, but also  gives them hope  and anticipation.

He paid glowing tribute to the Late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu for midwifing the Biafra project which he said had formed the outlook of Ndigbo over the years but regretted that they (Ndigbo) had continued to suffer massacre, deprivations and marginalization in the nation’s scheme of things.

“The seed of discord sown between us and our brothers by our detractors cost us our first attempt at independence. It brought distrust between us and our brothers and our detractors used the distrust existing between us to manipulate us. Our detractors used all sorts of gimmicks to cause enmity between us to exploit us, used divided and ruled tactics to deny us our common wealth” he lamented.
