All schools and markets in Ibafo, Ogun State, a sprawling city along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, were forced to close in the afternoon of Wednesday, June 17, 2015, when the news filtered in that the traditionalists in the town would be performing a rite called ‘Oro”.

A resident told Daily Independent that there was pandemonium as parents were running helter skelter to pick their wards from schools while traders and shopkeepers quickly closed shops for fear of their lives.

The Oro is usually celebrated when an important personality dies in the community and it is believed that such a person would be buried with some human heads.

The residents were phoning loved ones at work in Lagos to be aware of the situation and to be careful not to return late in the night to avoid running into trouble.
