Benin – The Manufacturers Association Of Nigeria (MAN), Edo/Delta states chapter on Sunday asked Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, the Peoples Democratic Party (PD) governorship candidate, to keep faith with his programmes and policies of incorporating the private sector into his government as enunciated in his Simple Agenda.

In an interactive session MAN had with the PDP candidate in Benin City, Dr. Alufoje Unuigboje, the branch chairman, said that the content of the Simple Agenda which Ize-Iyamu enunciated to members seemed too good to be true.

“I hope we can hold you to the content of the Simple Agenda; it’s too good to be true. We very much like to connect with you and partner with your government to help build the industrial architecture of Edo State,” he stated.

Ize-Iyamu assured the MAN members that his government would foster a robust relationship with the private sector by supporting and encouraging them through interactions and interface in the economic interest of Edo people.

“I have a deep insight into the workings of government. Before coming out to seek the party ticket for governor, I sat down and appraised the situation of our state and after due consultations came up with the Simple Agenda,” he stated.

He added, “One of the issues I think government will address immediately is the issue of multiple taxation. I learnt from state tax officials that of the  two million eligible tax payers in the state only about 180, 000 are in the tax net. Few people are paying taxes and the revenue is going into private pockets.”

He also said that he was not against taxes but that they must be humane, reasonable and legal, adding that he would review taxes downwards for the private sector as way of encouraging manufacturers to create jobs and boost the state’s economy.

“In six months, I will chart an Economic roadmap for our state by hosting an International Economic Summit which will highlight the economic potentials of our state and discern ways and means of actualising them,” he pledged.

Ize-Iyamu said that relevant tax laws and rates in the state as they affect businesses would be gazette and publicised while the nominees for commissioners would have portfolios sent along when they are to be screened for appointment by the state assembly.
