Kaduna State Police Command on Tuesday, 15, 2015, arrested a 30-year-old man, Shafiu Bello, for raping three girls of ages 7 and 8 in Badarawa area of Kaduna North local government.

The minors (names withheld), who were still in shock when newsmen visited the Primary Healthcare Centre, Badarawa, where they were examined, alleged that the suspect enticed them with N5 and N10 with death threat should they tell anyone about his nefarious activities with them.

One of the girls told this correspondent that Shafiu has been having canal knowledge of her close to a year now but could not tell anyone because of the threat and financial promises. The three of them who reside in the same neighbourhood are not from the same family.

On how and when the incident took place, they said he always enticed then when they are running errands for their parents within the area.

Luck however ran out of the suspect when his last victim could not easily urinate which drew her mother’s attention before the girl eventually let the cat out of bag.

The father of one of the girls, Hamisu Bala, said the suspect confessed to the allegation when he was confronted. He added that it took the intervention of security person for the suspect not to be lynched by mob, who stormed the area when they got the news.

He further alleged that the suspect performs his rituals with the girls in his apartment though at different spots.

According to him, “What he does is to lay in wait for the girls when they are running errand for their parents. He would not go to work but keep waiting for the girls to come out. We are worried about the whole thing because we do not even know whose turn it will be tomorrow.

“Are they telling us not to have female children again? What is government doing to bring the perpetrators to deserving punishment because this is certainly not the first time this is happening. We are really worried as parents”, he lamented.

Leader of Badarawa/Malali Concern Forum, simply identified as Lema, said the suspect was handed over to the police in order for the issue not to degenerate to the level of killing.

Effort to speak with the police on the matter as at press time was not successful due to poor communication network.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), North-west Zonal Secretary, Hajiya Daharatu Aliyu, who was also present at the hospital, expressed dismay over the development, called for enlightenment on parents who tries to silent such ungodly act.
