A 38-year-old man, Chinenye Juventus, who allegedly damaged a perimeter fence worth N1.5 million, has been docked at an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

The accused is standing trial on a four-count charge bordering on malicious damage, trespass and forceful taking over possession.

Police prosecutor, Babaji Ishaku, told the court that the accused and others still at large committed the offences sometime between 2005 and 2006 at Okota, Lagos.

Ishaku alleged that the accused entered into plots of land which had a Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) without obtaining permission from its owner.

The prosecutor said the accused unlawfully damaged the fence worth N1.5 million, property of one Mrs. Victoria Ozoigbo.

He said the suspect and others at large forcefully took over possession of the plots of land without any justification.

Ishaku said the offences contravened Sections 52, 53, 348 and 410, of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the offences.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Section 348 provides that any person who willfully and unlawfully destroys or damages any property is guilty of an offence and liable to two years’ imprisonment.

The magistrate, Mrs O. A. Fowowe, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
